Tragic Weekend in Manitoba: RCMP Investigates Two Separate Lake Drowning Deaths
Manitoba RCMP are currently investigating two separate and heartbreaking drowning incidents that occurred on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two men. These tragic events have shaken communities across the province, prompting renewed calls for water safety awareness.
First Incident at Reynolds Ponds
The first incident took place around 2:00 PM at Reynolds Ponds, located within the Rural Municipality of Reynolds. RCMP officers responded to a call reporting a possible drowning. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered a deceased male. While details surrounding the circumstances of the drowning are still under investigation, foul play is not suspected at this time. The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time,” stated a spokesperson for the Manitoba RCMP. “We are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to this tragedy.”
Second Incident at Lake Manitoba
Later that same day, around 6:30 PM, another drowning occurred on Lake Manitoba. RCMP received a report of a missing person who had gone into the water and failed to resurface. A search and rescue operation was immediately launched, involving RCMP officers, local search and rescue teams, and the Canadian Coast Guard. The missing man's body was recovered a short time later. As with the first incident, the victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification. The investigation into the circumstances of this drowning is also underway, with no immediate indication of foul play.
“This weekend’s events serve as a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with water activities,” added the RCMP spokesperson. “We urge all Manitobans to exercise extreme caution around bodies of water, to wear life jackets, and to be aware of their surroundings.”
Ongoing Investigations and Safety Reminders
Both drowning incidents are currently under investigation by the Manitoba RCMP. Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding each tragic event. The RCMP is collaborating with the Manitoba Medical Examiner's Office to determine the official cause of death.

- Always wear a properly fitted life jacket, especially when boating or participating in water sports.
- Never swim alone.
- Be aware of weather conditions and water currents.
