Liam Gallagher Slams Edinburgh Council Over 'Disgusting' Oasis Fan Comments

Oasis legend Liam Gallagher has launched a fiery attack on Edinburgh City Council after leaked internal documents labelled attendees of his recent concert as “fat, drunk, and rowdy.” The rock icon, never one to shy away from a public spat, took to social media to condemn the comments as “disgusting” and a sweeping generalization of his loyal fanbase.
The controversy began when excerpts from a safety briefing circulated online. The briefing, reportedly intended for council staff and security personnel involved in the Gallagher concert at Murrayfield Stadium, described Oasis fans in unflattering terms. This sparked immediate outrage amongst fans and, predictably, the attention of Gallagher himself.
“Right, Edinburgh council,” Gallagher tweeted, “Some absolute melt has written in a briefing that Oasis fans are ‘fat, drunk, and rowdy.’ Seriously? Disgusting. You clearly don’t know anything about Oasis fans. They’re the best in the world, and they deserve an apology. Get your house in order.”
The comments have ignited a debate about stereotypes and the portrayal of music fans. Many have pointed out that the briefing paints an unfair picture of the vast majority of attendees, who were simply there to enjoy the music and celebrate the legacy of Oasis. Social media has been flooded with messages of support for Gallagher and condemnation of the council’s remarks, with fans sharing positive experiences and highlighting the friendly and passionate atmosphere at the concert.
Edinburgh City Council has since issued a statement acknowledging the briefing and apologizing for any offense caused. A spokesperson stated, “We are aware of the comments made in an internal briefing regarding attendees at the recent Liam Gallagher concert. These comments do not reflect the views of the council, and we sincerely apologise to Liam Gallagher and his fans for any upset or offense caused. We are investigating the matter further and will be taking appropriate action.”
However, Gallagher is not satisfied with the initial apology. He has demanded a more substantial retraction and a recognition of the disrespect shown to his fans.
